Reading
Along with pupil wellbeing, reading is a top priority for us in Key Stage 1 and we follow the Little Wandle programme to teach the children phonics and early reading at our school. You can find more information about the programme and how to support your child using these links:

Once your child has successfully completed the exit assessments for Little Wandle in Year 2, they will read age-appropriate books. Your child will continue to develop their reading skills, vocabulary and comprehension by completing two teacher-led reading sessions in school each week, but there willl be a strong emphasis on reading with a greater level of independence and stamina.
Each week your child will bring a Reading for Pleasure book home to share with you. These are chosen by the children themselves and are for you to read to your child as they will not be matched to their reading ability.
Please use the file attached below for ideas of the kinds of questions to ask your child when reading and sharing books together at home to develop their language and comprehension skills.
