Spelling
Playing spelling games can motivate your child and be a lot of fun! Here is one that we like. When your child brings home their spellings, try making silly sentences together using the list we have sent home. Your child might enjoy drawing pictures to help them to remember how to spell a certain word, or they may find it useful to write parts of words in different colours.
In Year 4, the National Curriculum expectations for spelling are similar to what they are in Year 3. We will focus on:
- spelling lots of homophones correctly
- spelling words that are often misspelt (see the Spelling word list for Year 3 and Year 4)
- using the possessive apostrophe with regular and irregular plurals.
Year 3 and 4 common exception words
These are the words which need to be learnt (ideally by the end of Year 4).
