Spelling
In Year 6, spelling lists are set on a Tuesday and are tested on the following Tuesday.
For the spellings for each week, please see the lists in the table below.
Alongside weekly spelling lists, please do revisit the statutory spelling lists for both year 3/4 and year 5/6 at home. Pupils will be tested on these words throughout the term.
In Y6, we also complete a termly Single Word Spelling Test to assess spelling ability. This assessment provides teachers with a spelling age in years and months which will be communicated to parents during parent teacher meetings.
During end of KS2 statutory assessments in May, children will be tested on 20 random words as part of their Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar SATs test.
How can I support my child?
- Spelling Shed is a great resource with games and quizzes designed to help pupils practise their spellings regularly. Children have a Wonde login to access Spelling Shed.
- It is also important that Nessy is used at home for those who access this resource in school. Please ensure that children complete the Nessy activities independently so that progress can be tracked accurately by staff in school. If you have lost login details for Nessy or Wonde, please contact us using the class email address.
- Regular revision of the statutory spelling lists (please see above).
- Providing children with sentences to write, rather than just single words. This helps pupils to understand the meaning of words and will support their spelling when writing.
