Pathways to Write

Manfish.jpg

  hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhy

This term, writing lessons will focus on the inspirational tale 'Manfish' by Jennifer Berne. In this biography, poetic text and paintings come together to create a portrait of Cousteau. This magical and inspiring story adventure provides cross-curricular links with our geography work on Île-de-France and French culture.

During this unit of work, we will reinforce grammar objectives previously taught whilst introducing new objectives in preparation for high school.

Our Mastery Keys this term:

  • use relative clauses beginning with who, which, where, when, whose, that or an omitted relative pronoun;
  • use a wide range of cohesive devices;
  • use colons to introduce a list and use semi-colons within lists;
  • use hyphens to avoid ambiguity.

Our text-based approach to writing will help us to build our writing stamina as we work towards writing a section of a biography for Jacques Cousteau.

As we approach the end of the year, we will move to short burst writing using images, films and texts as a stimulus to explore a range of writing genres. We will also be making use of cross-curricular writing in science and geography.
